Identity Theft Protection Guide...
Identity Theft Prevention - Your First Steps
Although you probably were hoping for some miracle formula, the key to
securing your identity begins with the basics. Monitoring all of your personal
information and taking the steps necessary to assure it doesn't fall into the
wrong hands is not something you could do, it's something you must do.
Identity theft occurs in so many different arenas, you can not be effective
if you concentrate just in one area of protection, such as internet security or credit report
monitoring. Each and every step is paramount.

Identity Theft Prevention Basics?
In a past era we could trust our neighbors, our friends, our employers.
But today, everyone is suspect. Now we have dumpster divers trying to retrieve
confidential papers; people stealing our mail before Postal carriers
can complete their routes; and wait staffs, retail clerks, and the employees of
our employers selling our confidential names, credit card, and Social Security
numbers to organized crime rings. How can we ever provide protection for ourselves
against these kinds of attacks? Knowledge, Prevention, Resources, Protection! These
4 in unison will best protect you!

Identity Theft Knowledge
The knowledge of how fast identity theft is growing will probably be your most valuable
weapon. If you believe it will never happen to you and don't take the necessary precautions
towards protection and prevention, it very likely will happen to you.
An average misconception about identity
theft is that thieves target the "well off", "the rich"--not the average Joe. How wrong!
Although it does happen to the wealthy as demonstrated in the well publicized Tiger Woods case,
the usual victim is just your average, middle class working adult. Actually, the only reason
Tiger ended up a victim was stupidity on the part of the thief. The thief did not know that
Eldrick T. Woods was more widely known as Tiger Woods.
And you've seen the CitiBank identity theft
commercials on television. In all those commercials, every victim was just your average, middle
class working adult. It does happen to the wealthy as well. So stock brokers, lawyers, doctors
and CEO's of big corporations need to practice the same precautions. But generally, the victims
are just you and me. There is no one immune. In fact, even those in law enforcement have come
under attack.
There are several great books on the subject that give you actual case histories of identity
theft victims. "Identity Theft: Someone is Watching You"
recounts harrowing tales of people who have lost businesses, served long jail terms for crimes they
knew nothing about, and those who lost everything they had worked for their entire lives. You can
buy a copy of that book or several other titles in our bookstore if you want reading material that
can make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. But all those titles contain a great wealth
of knowledge towards the prevention of indentity theft as well. You can also build a wealth of knowledge
about identity theft by visiting our PDF Booklet Page. There, for your convenience, we have included
a library of PDF booklets concerning identity theft protection from the leading authorities--the Federal Trade
Commission, the FBI, the General Accounting Office, etc. You can view them online or they're free
to download so that you may read them at your leisure.

Prevention Techniques
"OK! OK!" you say,"Let's get to prevention". If you have done any reading about identity theft
or listened to the news broadcasts over the past several years, some of what you are about to read
will probably be redundant. But we will give you a more in-depth look at protection and prevention techniques
that work. Protection Guide Continued
